The Wörthersee story this year starts with the epic build of the Shairan, we literally picked up the car off Syco Graphix on the way to the ferry this year so to say we were last minute is an understatement!
It would seem pretty stupid to some people to drive a car we had bought, spent a day fixing then setting off on a 1200 mile trip to a town in Austria to look at some cars. But once you have been to Wörthersee a few times you can’t turn a trip down. This one was a special one though, CumbriaVAG Show & Shine Festival organiser Dan’s stag do.
Day 1 – The trip over
After the 2000km epic trip, you think we’d want to get straight to the hotel for some sleep? Wrong! Straight to Faaker See to catch the cars we knew would be leaving in the coming days. And of course we wanted to show off the creation that had been bouncing around in our heads for the last few months. To say the Sharan was well recieved would be an understatement!
Day 2 –
As we were staying near Faaker See the best place we could think to spend the day was at the Arneitz centre with its huge carpark and stunning mountain backdrop. This also seemed like pretty much the only place embracing the GTi-Treffen this year. With speedbumps and huge police presence seemingly affecting Velden and surrounding areas badly.
First job of the day was a decent clean to get all the bugs we had collected on the way to Austria off! We also had a mechanical fettle to see if anything had broken on the trip over, we only found one thing; the coil pack had begun to fail and we needed one ASAP, after shouting on every social media outlet I could think of a random eBay search found one in the exact town we had left originally in the UK – Ulverston. A few phone calls and we had one on the way to us via a group of legends from Scotland!
Faaker See’s huge Arneitz carpark seemed to be the place to be this year.
Golf R front bumper squeezed onto a Polo looked good!
This Golf Country was packing a VR6 Turbo under the bonnet and went extremely well from what we saw.
Day 3 & 4 – Rain!
A few days of rain seemed to put alot of people off venturing out, of course with us being from the North its what we are used to and still went for a scout around to see what was around.
We even managed to slip in a trip to Lake Bled in Slovenia, topped off with an awesome €150 fine for not having the correct Vignette!
The sun returned for the last few days of the trip and we lapped up all the new cars that had found their way into town. Spending our days in Reifnitz at the official Wörthersee Treffen event and our nights at Faaker See.
Sourkrauts seem to be buying up every cool Mercedes going and dropping it on air!
Volkswagen’s official stand smaller than previous years and no sign at all of Audi, Seat or Skoda stands.

We spent the last few days of the trip travelling back via the Porsche Museum and Nurburgring, a fantastic end to another awesome Wörthersee trip. And once again we have come back with loads of ideas of what cars we all want! (Audi Allroads!)
