Having been missing the VAG scene for the last 5 months with doing a Ski Season over in France, I received a Facebook message from CumbriaVAG Show & Shine Festival Co-Founder Matt, with a suggestion of visiting Wörthersee on my few weeks back in the UK before starting work again!
I committed pretty quickly after missing 2014s event, having been in 2012 and 2013 previously! We knew it wasn’t going to be a long trip so we had to get to Austria and back again pretty quickly, and as cheaply as possible. Deciding on return flights to Venice (£70), we booked accommodation in Wörthersee (£180 for 4 nights) and we were pretty much set for the trip. And all for under £200 each! A small price to pay for what we both knew was going to be another awesome trip.
Day One! – We set off on Tuesday 5th May after seeing a weeks worth of amazing cars all over Facebook and Instagram. Arriving into Venice at 5pm we got to the car rental desk after booking a nice VW Polo, only to be given the keys to a Citroen DS3! We begged for something even remotely german but to no avail, not the end of the world but an embarrassment if there ever was one; rolling around a primarily German show in a standard Citroen!
We arrived into Wörthersee at around 8pm, dropped our bags off and set out, straight to the Eni (Shell) petrol station in town. A brisk 10 minute walk from our accommodation and we had the garage in our sights.
Passing us along the walk was some of the finest German cars we had ever seen, from mint concourse standard Mk1 Golfs to the latest cars to come out of Audi’s showrooms. The standard of cars in Wörthersee is just so so far beyond anything you see in the UK it has to be seen to be believed. We spent the night at the Eni station checking out what was around before getting back to the hotel for an early start on day two.
Day Two – Day Two began with a trip to one of our favorite photosnapping spots, Faaker See’s huge carpark. Teamed with the views of the amazing Austrian Alps and an awesome drive to the carpark to boot.
We also visited Reifnitz, where the main show takes place in a few weeks, then onto the Pyramidenkogel for its amazing views and finally back into Velden, completing a full loop of the lake!
