Dan’s Mk1 Jetta
Well, this is the one some of you have been waiting for. Dan’s ridiculous attention to detail combined with his vast knowledge of old watercooled Volkswagens has turned his Mk1 Jetta into one of the finest in the country.
First things first, we’ll let the recent short film from Heavyset do a lot of the talking…
Dan picked the car up a few years ago from near to London, and the minute he had it home began attacking it with the buffer, keeping at it for a couple of days until he was finally happy. He then set to the interior with a lot of the electricals not working as they should. After a complete interior re-wire everything is now spot on and even the old MFA works perfectly!
The engine is from a 1990 Audi 80 Sport, and has plenty of trick bits added to kick out around 140bhp. This combined with an early Mk1 gearbox and hill climb spec diff makes for extreme fun, and despite the car only doing 100mph on the limiter, it gets there fairly quickly and often embarrasses modern cars! You’d expect a car like this to be kept tucked away and nursed to shows every so often, but no, Dan uses this as his daily driver through summer and he definitely doesn’t hold back when driving it!
He still has plenty of plans for the car in the future – Next on the list is a high powered ABF lump from a mk3 gti 16v, coupled with a limited slip diff. GAZ Coilovers have also been mentioned to replace the budget ones it’s currently sitting on.
We absolutely love this car, and we hope he’ll hang onto it for years to come!
